What is the difference between NFC and FC juice?

The main difference between NFC (Not From Concentrate) and FC (From Concentrate) juice lies in the processing method, taste quality, and storage requirements. Here’s a breakdown:

NFC Juice – Not From Concentrate

  • Processing: Fresh fruit is directly pressed, filtered, and then lightly pasteurized to ensure safety.

  • No Water Removal or Reconstitution: Juice is not evaporated or diluted at any stage.

  • Flavor Profile: Retains the natural aroma, color, and taste of fresh fruit. Often considered more “fresh” or “premium”.

  • Shelf Life: Shorter; typically requires refrigeration (cold chain logistics) and is best for local or high-end markets.

  • Labeling Terms: Also called “freshly squeezed”, “cold-pressed”, or “100% juice, not from concentrate”.

FC Juice – From Concentrate

  • Processing: Juice is first evaporated under vacuum to remove water and form a concentrate. Later, it’s reconstituted by adding water during bottling.

  • Advantages:

    • Lower shipping/storage costs due to reduced volume

    • Longer shelf life; can be stored at room temperature if aseptically packed

  • Flavor Profile: May lose some aroma and natural taste, but remains cost-effective for mass production.

  • Labeling Terms: Typically marked as “reconstituted juice”, “from concentrate”, or “juice drink” (if mixed with other ingredients).
